The NorthEast Secretariat on Human Rights has issued an urgent appeal to the International community to help the people of the NorthEast Sri Lanka, who are suffering from the Tidal Wave disaster that affected them on December 26.
NESOHR further reminds the Tamil Brethrens living abroad to extend their helping hands to the surviving and displaced.
Never before in the history of the country has such a disaster hit this community in these large numbers killed and injured. Many villages have been flattened and enormous property loss has resulted.
We appreciate the Diaspora, along with the International Donor Agencies, sharing this suffering of our community. It is only these donor communities who can help rebuild the lives of the people recovering from this disaster.
Further, NESOHR is insisting that the International and the Sri Lankan government media publicize these grave losses and destruction to the rest of the world without discrimination.
